You will walk along the river Valserine from downtown to the Pertes where the water then disappear into the Rhone creating some canyons. There are some signs on the way with plenty of information to discover more about the valley's history.

It is a natural site that has contributed to the industrial and commercial development of Bellegarde. The Valserine river has also been a border many times : between France and Savoy (1601-1760), then it was a free zone (1815-1923) and a French Demarcation Line during the World War Two (free zone located on the right bank).
